Bushfire seasons are getting longer each year

The Californian bushfire tragedy reminds Australians that our own fire season is imminent – no one wants to lose their home over the summer, but it can be hard sometimes to know what you can do to protect it. The good news is that an Australian company has introduced a new fire-proof building product that will revolutionize the fire-proofing of Australian homes, AND without breaking the bank.

Most Australian homes, 70% in fact, are constructed of timber framing or brick veneer with plasterboard and timber stud walls. This makes them a huge fire risk.

FireCrunch is a fire-resistant cladding board that is made from a composite of Magnesium oxide and Mag Sulphate (MgSO4) . The board is so insulating, that you can actually put your hand on the unexposed side of a 90mm cavity wall, even if the temperature has been heated to 1000 degrees Celsius on the other side for 30 minutes .

FireCrunch forms a protective envelope or fire box for walls ceilings and floors which will not allow the internal temperature to reach combustion levels and keeps it below 25 to 35 deg Celsius so the home will still be left standing after the FIRE storm passes.****

To ensure that the product complied with Australian standards, several tests were undertaken by the CSIRO under the most aggressive fire test conditions and FireCrunch achieved a 90 minute fire rating with just 1 x 10mm thick board. AS1530.1, AS1530.4 which also easily meets the lower bush fire level AS/3959 via the NCC alternative systems, qualified by registered fire engineers certificates of compliance


That fire test proved that the cladding integrity could withstand 90 minutes at 1000 degrees celsius.
Put simply, this is means that the 10mm FireCrunch products will withstand a full Passover Firestorm attack (the worst kind of bushfire with temperatures of 1200 deg c) , as tested in a real time bushfire test scenario by the CSIRO .

Bushfire Area Building

Through the name it might be noted that FireCrunch is a building board that offers security and peace of mind to people living in or rebuilding in bushfire zones. It does this through the use of innovative Magnesium Oxide and "Magnesium Sulphate" bushfire resistant building boards and materials that resist fire to up to 1200°C, all while being environmentally friendly and asbestos free.

Australian Standards Fire Tested

The CSIRO have fire tested and certificated all the 10mm FireCrunch boards to a standard Fire Resistance Level (FRL) of 90/90/90, with these in depth and the most “aggressive” AS 1530.4-2014/18 fire tests.

The FRL obtained with 1 x 10mm sheet is FRL 90/90/90 on light steel frame cold rolled formed blue scope steel, gauge 1.15 BMT and a 55kN load bearing on the BCA minimum 3m x 3m frame.

The FRL (Fire Resistance Level ) was obtained with 1 x 10mm sheet is FRL 90/90/90 on a light gauge cold rolled formed blue scope steel, gauge 1.0 BMT and a 55kN load bearing.
